Keith Richardson
The Sligo based artist, originally from Dublin, developed a keen interest in art from a young age. As a secondary school pupil of Colaiste Mhuire on Parnell Square, Keith, a regular visitor to the Hugh Lane Gallery spent much of his free time wandering the galleries admiring the many great artists on display. That, along with a keen interest in Irish history and heritage was his initial inspiration to becoming an artist himself.
Although Keith continued to develop his art over the next few years, his dreams eventually took a back seat as college and career took over. That was, until six years ago when Keith married and moved to Sligo. It was here that Keith was once again inspired to take up his art. The beautiful and peaceful surroundings of the Sligo coastlines and the interesting historical sites combined with the relaxed atmosphere of life away from hectic city living re-awoke in him the desire to paint and re-discover his talents.
Self taught (through his own admission of trial and error) Keith has developed his own unique style. Keith feels the lack of technical restrictions gives his work more of a sense of freedom, creating greater movement within his work. Music has also had an astounding effect on the mood of his work and therefore, has been quite influential on the finished pieces.
Currently starting to branch into the Dublin and London Galleries, Keith’s ambitions and aspirations continue to grow.
