Christine Mackey

Studio based at Leitrim Sculpture Centre, Mackey completed a Fulbright Creative Research Scholarship Award in 2018 pursuing independent research at institutions across the States including Art & Ecology Department, University of New Mexico.

Mackey’s work transmigrates between people and places and for the past number of years she’s had individual responsibility for a range of site-specific public projects as well as developing unique pedagogical programmes for the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin.  In terms of tutoring she has devised and delivered a professional-practice course for practicing artist and crafts people.  This also includes the development and successful delivery of varied educational programmes through residencies in Ireland and abroad for adults and young people.  With the technical, practical and discursive experiences combining new media and social practice, her work cuts across a variety of art forms and approaches that includes mixed-media installations combining video, sound, object work, photo-based/text compositions and drawings and the development, design and production of bespoke publications that utilize ‘conversational’ practice to raise current issues in relation to land and environmental practices.

Her work has received support from The Arts Council of Ireland Bursary Awards and Travel and Training Awards, Leitrim County Council Arts Awards, Culture Ireland Exhibition Travel Awards, and the Vice-Chancellor’s Research Scholarship, University of Ulster, Belfast, EV+A Limerick.
