Karen Webster

Karen Webster is an artist and arts facilitator, originally trained in ceramics but now making work with a wide range of different materials including oils, mixed media and alternative photographic processes.

Alongside her own arts practice, she has many years experience designing and delivering high quality arts opportunities in a variety of settings and has worked extensively combining art and education.

She is particularly interested in the potential for the arts in place-based learning and environmental education. She has a MA(Res) investigating the role art can play in engaging children with the natural world and delivers training nationwide for educators interested in combining art and ecology.

In 2017 she took part in a residency in El Hierro using art-making as a way to discover and deepen connection with place. She has continued to be inspired by this idea, recently creating a limited edition art book containing a collection of paintings, photographs and prints, as part of the 'Take a Walk for Me' project, commissioned by Sligo Arts Service and Healthy Ireland.

She spends much of her time outdoors in the hills or by the sea and the natural world is the inspiration for her work, basing images on what she observes often in remote or inaccessible places.

Coming from a background of working with clay has led her to explore techniques that combine materials from the natural world in some way and is particularly interested in how we use natural resources in art making.
