Bealtaine Sligo 2013 Feature

‘The Poetry of Place’

A performance by Steve Wickham
and guest musicians Anna Houston, Kieran Quinn and Cathal Roche.

Bealtaine Festival Sligo is delighted to introduce a new music performance ‘The Poetry of Place’ commissioned for 2013 by Sligo Arts Service and The Hawk’s Well Theatre with funding from Sligo Borough Council, Sligo County Council, HSE West and the Arts Council of Ireland.

‘Music, like poetry, can spring from a place of silence and stillness. The music for The Poetry of Place is a distillation, an essence, of the places and the people we visited during our workshops around the county of Sligo. Using melodies discovered by the older groups and poetry that evolved over our time together we have come up with a collection of musical and spoken word pieces that reflect on this idea of the poetry of place’.

'The Poetry of Place' is a new composition by Steve Wickham for a four piece ensemble of Piano, Wind and Strings.
A number of events are being hosted by The Model, Sligo and other groups and venues throughout the County.
