John Carty
John Carty is an actor with Sligo – based Blue Raincoat Theatre Company. John began his training at the Samuel Beckett Centre Centre for Drama and Theatre Studies, Trinity College receiving his diploma in theatre studies in 1988. Shortly afterwards he joined Co – Motion Theatre Company with a number of fellow graduates which made up the ensemble. He worked with the company for 2 years working mainly on new writings by company writer/director, Joe O Byrne. Following this fruitful period as a young actor, john obtained work with theatre – in – Education Company, Graffiti. It was towards the end of this tour, that john was approached by a familiar face from Sligo, Niall Henry who together with Malcolm Hamilton founded in Blue Raincoat Theatre Company. John joined the company for their inaugural production, Double Cross by Thomas Kilroy, in 1991. The rest, as they say, is history.
