Theatre, exhibition space and audio-visual

The theatre can accommodate 150 people seated and is also used to facilitate Ceili nights and exhibitions by writers, painters, craftsmen and craftswomen in the locality. A series of concerts will be run over the Summer months which will feature the finest living exponents of traditional music, including many artists from abroad. The theatre also houses an audiovisual display on South Sligo: it's music and the life of Michael Coleman.

There is a permanent exhibition located on the second floor of the Visitors Centre where you can listen to instruments, musical styles and individual musicians from the beginning of the last century right through to the music of today. Interactive multimedia terminals will tell you a little more about local lore, music in the area, Irish dancing styles and traditions, how musical instruments are made and much more.

The reception area houses a Music/Gift Shop, stocking a large selection of traditional music CD's, DVDs, Instruments, Accessories and gift items so you can take a little of the Coleman Country back home with you.

Located just 40kms from Sligo, Gurteen is flanked on three sides by Counties Sligo, Mayo and Roscommon.

A perfect place to visit and stay if you're coming to the West of Ireland for the first time. And if you're a return visitor your own memories of your last stay will bring you back for more.

Take the N4 out of Sligo towards Dublin
Turn Right on to the N17 towards galway at the second roundabout at colloney
Follow the N17 for 3.5Km then Turn left towards Ballymote
Follow this road for 8Km to Ballymote
In Ballymote, Turn Right (at Cyran's shop)
Follow this road up and down the hill and then Turn Right at the crossroad towards Gurteen
Follow this round 10Km to Gurteen Village, Ceolaras Coleman is on the right hand side of the crossroad
