New Studio Space The Old Mill
A new and exciting studio space is under way at the Old Mill on Union Street in Sligo.
This is an opportunity for 20 – 24 artists to share a 4000sq ft space on a 12 month contract with a view to keeping the space active on an ongoing long term basis. The space will provide a hub, privately run by the collective artists but also open to the public and to be used for studio workspace, gallery space, exhibitions, photographic studio, storage, coffee/ meeting / social space, workshops and for film viewings.
Matthew Tucker is one of the Artists involved in setting up the Art Space. Currently a student at Sligo I.T., he and a number of students from the Art Department are focused on seeing this project augment.
Matthew and his colleagues are looking to establish a committee of 8 members to manage, administrate and be responsible for the studio space. Once agreed they will be in a position to sign the lease of the Old Mill. They are currently looking for 3 - 4 artists who would be interested in becoming committee members. Artists must be committed to art practice, responsible, innovative and enthusiastic about the project.
Artists interested in sharing the studio space are also invited to make enquiries. A price has not yet been confirmed but the monthly rental fee for a work space/studio will be extremely affordable. Final numbers (not exceeding 24) will dictate the price but it is projected that the figure will be below €100 monthly. The objective of the space at the Old Mill is create a lively, open and engaging environment for local artists across all artforms and for art lovers to come and get involved, giving artists the opportunity to show their work and communicate with an audience.
