Arts Grant Scheme 2011

Sligo Arts Service awarded grants to 21 arts groups and festivals involved in enhancing access to the arts throughout County Sligo. 

With their grants Grange Art Group will commence a Landscape Acrylic Painting Course and the Young At Heart Active Age Group will work on a Drama production and an exhibition. Youth Summer Camps will be supported through the grants scheme in the Sandcastles Childcare Centre (artist Daniel Chester) and the Ballymote Youth Steering Group Summer Camp (artist Chris Thompson). 

Rosses Point Art Group will recommence in September 2011 with a weekly programme of visual art workshops, JOYN Company for Art & Therapy will host an Open Studio for adults with MHD and Scoil Asicus National School, Strandhill will welcome sculptor Bettina Seitz into the classroom who will work with the children to devise a school mural. 

Festivals that were successful for funding this year include the  Cos Cos Sean Nos Festival (2012), the Rosses Point Sea Shanty Festival, Ceol na Samhna 2011 Festival (South Sligo Branch CCE), the Sligo/ Fred Finn Traditional Singing Weekend and The Northwest LGBT Pride Festival Parade. Enniscrone & District Community Development Ltd. will host a Children's Art Project during the Seaweed Festival.  

In Music, the Sligo Orpheus Choir will host a Concert & Carols evening in Drumcliffe, Coleman Bodhrán School will take place during the summer and the Michael Coleman Heritage Centre Ltd. will host Bodhran Tuition and Performance events later in the year. 

In Theatre, Luna Nua Theatre Company will devise an Easkey Labyrinth Show, Aclare Drama Group will create a Children's Musical, Western Drama Festival will use their funding towards the three act and one act drama festival in Tubbercurry, members of Branching Out will have workshops with professional artists. Theatre director Jean Marie Perinetti will devise drama workshops with the HSE Autism Services.

The members of Sligo County Council also provide funding and other supports to Sligo’s key organisations and annual events namely The Model, Blue Raincoat Theatre Company, The Hawk’s Well Theatre, Sligo Live, Sligo International Choral Festival, County Sligo Fleadh, Feis Shligigh, Sligo Feis Ceoil, Ballintogher Traditional Festival, South Sligo Summer School, Coleman Traditional Festival, James Morrison Weekend, and the Paddy Killoran Festival.
