Through the annual Vogler Spring Festival the Arts Department of Sligo County Council provides ongoing support for the performance and promotion of chamber music of excellence. The festival was established in 2000 as part of the Vogler Quartet in Sligo Residency Programme 1999-2004 an innovative project which has seen the Vogler Quartet pioneer a dynamic model of music development in County Sligo. The residency programme involved the Quartet working closely with local music groups, schools, educational institutions, community centres and venues in the key areas of performance, music education and instrumental tuition. This has greatly increased awareness and appreciation of classical music throughout the county.
The continuation of the festival beyond the Vogler Quartet in Sligo Residency timeframe has been welcomed by chamber music enthusiasts locally, nationally and internationally who have made Drumcliffe their annual destination for the May Bank Holiday weekend.
