The Sligo County Fleadh will be held in Dromore West for the second year running over the June Bank Holiday Weekend, 4 – 6 June

The Sligo County Fleadh will be held in Dromore West for the second year running over the June Bank Holiday Weekend, 4 – 6 June, and the aim is to make sure it will be an unforgettable event. Talented musicians and dancers will flock from all over the county to the prestigious event, ensuring plenty of craic agus ceoil.

In 2009 there were many events held in the West Sligo area months prior to the Fleadh and also on the weekend of the Fleadh. The many cultural aspects included a bilingual table quiz, concert performances by key musicians, singers and dancers from the North West. In addition there were ceilith, a traditional Mass, street entertainment and the production of a souvenir programme. 

As in previous years many of the Sligo County Fleadh students in the locality were successful in the County Fleadh, at the Connacht Fleadh in Roscommon and at the All Ireland in Tullamore in August 2009. The entries included solo competitions - 10 groups consisting of ceili bands and grupai cheoil. The senior grupai cheoil - Fred Finn Group and the senior ceili band - Dartry Ceili Band from the County emerged as 1st prize winners at the All Ireland Fleadh 2009. There were also 12 solo winners and duet and trio winners. Congratulations to all concerned!

Tireragh Branch of Comhaltas Ceoiltoiti Eireann was praised for their excellent standard with which the Fleadh 2009 was staged. Blessed with fabulous weather the fleadh weekend attracted many music lovers to the area. The organisation of the fleadh has been complemented by many fleadh goers and indeed the committee have been contacted for advice by other towns around the country that were so impressed by the work of the committee. The committee greatly appreciate the generosity of the community as a whole who also make it possible that the village can successfully arrange and deliver fleadh activities.

Organisers and musicians are looking forward to Fleadh 2010 and have already started to plan for the event.
