Leading International Theatre Tutors Come to Teach in Sligo

Sligo will play host to a number of renowned theatre directors and tutors as part of the annual Blue Raincoat Theatre Academy.  Now in its 8th year, the Academy provides training for all with workshops in Movement, Set design, Dance Theatre and Vocal Training. The tutors from this year’s programme include David Goldsworthy of the Roy Hart International Voice Centre based in France. David is a founder member of this acclaimed training Centre and a senior tutor with over 35 years’ experience in vocal training. David will conduct a 2-day weekend workshop for all actors and singers on Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th January.

From America, Steven Wasson and Corinne Soum, Co- directors of Theatre de L’ange Fou and founders of The White Church Project based in Wisconsin combine the experience of having been students and assistants of Etienne Decroux, and having taught, developed and directed corporeal training for actors for more than 30 years. The Movement workshop will take place from Monday 21st- Friday 25th January.

For a second year running, Michael Keegan Dolan, acclaimed director and choreographer of Swam Lake, which has wowed audiences around the world including The Hawk’s well in Sligo last year will conduct a Weekend workshop which is open to all on the 19th & 20th January.  And finally, in the  last workshop of this year’s academy, award winning designer Jamie Vartan will bring his many years of experience to bare for a 2- day workshop in Theatre Set Design on the 26th and 27th January.  Jamie’s work has been seen throughout Europe in the plays of Enda Walsh, Opera houses in Ireland, Italy and the UK and in Sligo with his design work for Blue Raincoat.
