Patricia Curran Mulligan at the Yeats Art Gallery, Sligo

From 15th – 29th September Sligo Artist Patricia Curran Mulligan will exhibit ‘Holdfast’, 24 new works in oil and mixed media in the Yeats Arts Gallery on Hyde Bridge in Sligo.

Holdfast is the final trilogy of exhibitions gestated during time spent over 82 days in isolation on the Fred Conlon inaugural Bursary at Easkey, Co. Sligo in 2009.

Part One ‘Storm Drawings’ was shown at the Hamilton Gallery in September/October 2009. Part Two ‘Clone, Bark, Mask’ was exhibited at the Yeats Art Gallery in April/May 2011.

Here in ‘Holdfast’ the innate curiosity of a child’s journey stumbles into disequilibrium. Schemas of internal representations to understand the world are formulated. Occasionally a sense of bliss, detachment from reality, lack of attention to the passing time is examined in the ‘Moment’.

Intense periods of concentration connect mixed signals or indifference. Play is hard-wired to our genetic code.

It is here the artist examines the ‘Holdfast’ from her birthplace, pre-journeying through fragmented zones to a doable state of timelessness.
