Sligo Orpheus Choir present “Hallelujah”

At  the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception Sligo

Friday 25th May 2012 at 8.00 pm

Music from “Handel to Leonard Cohen” with Sligo Chamber Orchestra Conductor Austin McManus with Soloists Mary Doran Mezzo Soprano and Tara Finn Uilleann Pipes.

 

The program

  • “Hallelujah” encompasses music from the centuries all woven in a musical web connecting back to the Charter of the Town in 1612 to the present day. The magnificent sound of Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus the glorious music of Mozart, Faure, and Beethoven with the modern sound of Barber, Horner, and Cohen.
  • The choir have commissioned an arrangement of James Horner’s music, from the Film “Titanic” for Orchestra and Uillean Pipes in memory of the many Irish and Sligo passengers who sailed on the ill-fated Titanic which sank 100 years ago April 15th 2012
  • Concert is part of a trilogy of  concerts in union with Sligo Borough Council to commemorate the signing of the Charter of Sligo in 1612
