Sligo Wide Photographic Exhibition

Sligo Wide Photographic Exhibition

26th March - 23rd April

The Atrium, Nazareth House, Church Hill, Sligo.

Sligo Wide exhibition is a collection of sixteen panoramic photographs taken by Sligo photographer Mark Capilitan.

Shot almost entirely in County Sligo, all but one of the exhibited images have been shot on film, a format Mark almost always chooses when out looking for panoramic landscape images.

Light is the most important aspect of any photograph, but especially when you want to show the gorgeous landscape of County Sligo in a different way! The harsh but fabulous winter of 2010/2011 led to some of the most amazing sunrises and sunsets over Sligo and Sligo Wide showcases some of these moments.

About Mark Capilitan

Sligo Wide is Mark Capilitan’s first solo photographic exhibition.

Completely self-taught, Mark started his photography career shooting motorsport all over England and Europe, before becoming a senior Formula 1 photographer for a couple of years – the only Irish photographer to do so.

Towards the end of 2006 Mark left F1 behind, and moved back to Sligo to specialise in wedding photography! He’s been photographing weddings ever since.

The travel he now does has influenced his venture into panoramic photography. Being inspired by leading panoramic photographers such as Ken Duncan, who showcase the brilliant colour and elegant terrain in nature, Mark decided if they can show the unbelievable conditions around the world, then why not try and do the same aroundSligo. It’s just a matter of waiting for the right conditions!
