About the Project and Exhibition ‘In The Making’

The Gallagher House Art Group Project was part of the Sligo County Council Arts Service, Arts in Health Programme 2018. Arts in Health is a fast emerging field that has developed in response to interest regarding the diverse ways in which the arts contribute to health, wellbeing, social inclusion and healthcare practice across a range of settings.

Over a two year period lead Artist Anna Spearman and project Manager /support project artist Catherine Fanning ran weekly creative sessions with twelve clients from Gallagher House. During these creative sessions, participants experimented with a wide range of materials and mediums.

A selection of the work created during these sessions formed the exhibition ‘In The Making’, exhibited at the Hyde Bridge Gallery, Sligo, October 2018. The exhibition was formally opened by poet Alice Lyons, who read her specially commissioned poem, which captured the spirit of the exhibition.

The project and exhibition was funded by Sligo County Council Arts Service and the HSE West.
