Art Commissions

Sligo County Council’s Public Art programme provides opportunities for artists working in all disciplines to create ambitious new work in the public realm, through open calls, partnerships and invited projects. Opportunities range from temporary works to large-scale permanent pieces in both natural and built environments.

Sligo County Council’s Public Art programme will recommence in 2026 as part of the implementation of Living Landscapes / Tírdhreacha Beo 2022 2028.

In March 2026, Rayne Booth was appointed Public Art Manager for the following projects, which will be delivered over the next 2 years:

Commission 1: Collooney–Castlebaldwin               

Commission 2: Dromore West / Easkey

Commission 3: Sligo Town Cluster

This commission forms part of Living Landscapes / Tírdhreacha Beo: Sligo’s Public Art Commissions Plan 2022-2028.

The commission is supported through the Per Cent for Art Scheme, drawing on allocations associated with the N4 Collooney-Castlebaldwin Road Project and nearby housing developments at Owenmore Drive and Owenmore Crescent. The overall indicative commissioning budget is approximately €182,654. An indicative €17,000 of this overall budget is allocated towards project management and delivery across the commission.

Artists will be invited to develop proposals that respond to the landscape, heritage and communities of the Collooney-Castlebaldwin area.

Art in your Community – Be Part of the Conversation

Local residents are invited to attend community meetings about new public art projects planned for their area by Sligo County Council. The meetings are an opportunity to hear about plans, share local stories and ideas, and help shape future projects in your community. Everyone is welcome – no arts knowledge is required.

Conversations will take place in two locations on Tuesday 16 June, at 7pm in the Teeling Centre, Collooney, followed by a meeting at 8.45pm in Taylor’s Art Gallery, Castlebaldwin.

This commission forms part of the Living Landscapes / Tírdhreacha Beo programme and is supported through Per Cent for Art allocations linked to housing developments in the Dromore West, Easkey and Crowagh areas.

The overall indicative commissioning budget is approximately €93,819. An indicative €9,000 of this overall budget is allocated towards project management and delivery across the commission. Artists will be invited to develop proposals that engage with the distinctive coastal landscape and communities of this part of County Sligo.

The meetings are an opportunity to hear about plans, share local stories and ideas, and help shape future projects in your community. Everyone is welcome – no arts knowledge is required.

Conversations will take place in two locations on Monday 15 June, at 7pm Dromore West Community Centre, followed by a meeting at 8.45pm in Easkey Community Centre.

This commission forms part of the Living Landscapes / Tírdhreacha Beo programme and brings together Per Cent for Art allocations from a number of housing developments within Sligo Town, including projects at Fr. O’Flannagan Terrace, Knappagh, Glenview and Southern Place. The overall indicative commissioning budget is approximately €97,273. An indicative €9,000 of this overall budget is allocated towards project management and delivery across the commission.

Artists will be invited to respond creatively to the urban environment and the communities who live, work and move through these areas.
