The Arts in Education Programme is founded on the belief that creativity is a powerful driver of learning, expression, and connection. The programme invites students to explore new ways of thinking and seeing the world. Through visits to Sligo’s cultural spaces and places, collaboration with professional artists and, hands-on activities, learners develop confidence, curiosity, and critical skills that extend far beyond the arts. The programme enriches learning, strengthens school communities, and fosters a lasting appreciation for the arts.
Sligo County Council’s Arts Service Department is committed to creating opportunities for older people to actively engage in the arts, not only as audiences, but as participants and co-creators in both Arts + Health settings and via the annual Bealtaine Festival.
Culture Night is a national celebration of arts, culture and creativity held annually each September, with free events taking place across Ireland. The Culture Night Sligo Fund supports artists, organisations and community groups to deliver creative events and activities across Sligo.
Sligo Arts Service recognises that the arts are a means to improving quality of life, enabling self-expression, enhancing learning and furthering the exploration of both personal and social identity for children and young people as they grow and develop.
Working with strategic local partners and through its funding programmes, the arts service supports the ongoing work of arts organisations and venues to increase participation opportunities in the arts for children and young people from diverse backgrounds as audiences, performers and creators and through promoting the development of skills training.
