Culture Night at The Model 

 

Family Cinema at The Model

An evening of fun family films and activities featuring the much loved classics The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child and the original Toy Story will take place up at the Model.  Kids (and even parents) are invited to dress up as a character from their favourite film.  Face painters will finish off the look and prizes will be awarded for the best outfits on the night.  There will be a special activity area for kids after each screening.

 

5pm. The, Deep, Dark Wood

A mischievous short animation starring the Big Bad Mouse, created by local animator Catherine O’Kane, 2012.

 

The Gruffallo 5pm The Gruffalo

A mouse took a stroll through the deep dark wood’ ...see the beautiful Oscar nominated animation, The Gruffalo, from the much-loved children’s books by author, Julia Donaldson.

 

5.30pm The Gruffalo’s Child

The Gruffalo’s Child tells the delightful tale of the little gruffalo, who ignores her father’s warnings and tip toes out into the snow in search of the Big, Bad Mouse!

 

Toy Story 6.15pm Toy Story

Disney Pixar presents the original Toy Story.

Chequerboard Chequerboard

The inimitable John Lambert aka Chequerboard returns to the Model with special guest cellists in tow to perform material from his new instrumental album. The Unfolding comes four years after his critically acclaimed album Penny Black that received a 5 star review from the Irish Times.

Chequerboard utilizes a plethora of machinery to create layered textured emotionally charged guitar pieces.

Relay

Relay is a call and response style sound project commissioned by The Model during his 2007 residency.  It has now evolved to a 16 part series curated by Lambert, and features some ofIreland’s best sound artists and musicians.

Up The Walls 

Up The Walls is an exhibition of international and Irish artists who are all exploring painting in new and innovative ways.

Yeats & Son;

Paintings by Jack B Yeats and John Butler Yeats.

These two separate but interrelated exhibitions, drawn from The Niland Collection, look at the artistic achievements of two members of the Yeats family - Jack B Yeats and his father, the portrait painter John Butler Yeats.  Although both gifted artists, John and Jack were vastly different both in terms of personality and creative output. This exhibition includes several of Jack’s masterpieces from The Niland Collection as well as two, rarely exhibited, early works, which are both new to the collection Political, 1898 and Robert Emmet at Carrignagat, 1898.

 

Open Studios

A chance for the public to encounter the exciting goings-on behind the doors of some of The Model Artists Studios, including that of artist-in-residence for September, Leonie Young (France).
