Sligo County Fleadh

 

Sligo County Fleadh is organised by Sligo County Board of Comhaltas Ceoltoírí Eireann and the Tireragh Branch of Comhaltas. The County Fleadh is a major cultural event in Count Sligo and is held annually on the June Bank Holiday weekend. A central element of the County Fleadh is the competitions in traditional music, song dance and the Irish language with qualifiers going forward to the provincial and All Ireland fleadhanna.


Sligo County Fleadh 2010

County Sligo Fleadh Cheoil 2010 is being hosted by Tireragh Brach CCE, Dromore West County Sligo. Events leading up to the Fleadh are as follows:

February 2010:

  • Visit to Ceolaras Coleman Centre, Gurteen; Research and interviews with senior musicians of the area.

March 2010:

  • Fleadh information night for general public and businesses.
  • Wednesday 17 March: St. Patrick’s Day parade promoting upcoming County Fleadh Cheoil followed by celebration of Irish Traditional music song and dance.

During April:

  • Youth Essay writing display – “Why Comhaltas is good for you!”
  • Invitation to Local Businesses to participate in Window Display.

During May:

  • Traditional Music Sessions Trail to villages of Easkey, Enniscrone, Castleconnor, Cullens, Templeboy and Skreen to promote Fleadh activities.
  • Failte to Fleadh 2010 - Comhaltas Information Evening and display of Tireragh Branch CCE achievements and photography / Fleadh Failte Posters designed by primary school children followed by Youth Session.
  • Oiche Gaeilge - Bilingual Table Quiz followed by session.

A souvenir book will be published to commemorate the weekend of County Sligo Fleadh

June

  • Friday 4 June: Official Opening and Traditional Concert in Community Centre. Display of Fleadh Failte posters by Local Primary School Children
  • Saturday 5 June: Solo Competitions, Street Entertainment, Youth Session, Singing Session and Ceili.
  • Sunday 6 June: Traditional Fleadh Mass, All Group Competitions, Duets, Trios, Grupai Cheoil, and Ceili Bands, Street Entertainment.
    Traditional Music Session throughout weekend.
