It has been said that a vibrant contemporary arts scene creates a vibrant city. So what does a vibrant arts scene look like?
- A place that shows great art in their museums and galleries
- A place where great art can be found outside of museums and galleries
- A place with a thriving artist community
- A place where artists want to live and work
- A place where there are opportunities for artists to show their work
- A place with a great art school
You will hear many different answers, and in truth they are all true. A vibrant art scene relies on a strong ecosystem where all of the above are important, but at the heart of it are the artists whose energy and creativity form the foundation of everything that happens.
A vibrant scene is not something that can be manufactured but there are things that can be done to help invest in that ecosystem.
Businesses, local government and local organisations can all play a role in helping create spaces for artists to show their work. Artists can self organise into groups and collectives to sustain the creative energy needed.
This event aims to build connections through open conversation to further the goal of a vibrant arts scene for Sligo.
